Health insurance 2027: premiums, increases and what changes in Switzerland
Health insurance premiums will rise again in 2027. Find out the national average increase, the differences between cantons and what your new premium will depend on.

The new health insurance premiums for 2027 are official. And this year too, insured people in Switzerland will have to face another increase.
Nationally, the average premium for compulsory health insurance will grow by 5%, reaching CHF 412 per month. The average increase is therefore about CHF 19.70 per month compared with 2026.
However, the national figure tells only part of the story. Premiums can change considerably depending on the canton, the region of residence, age, deductible and the chosen insurance model.
Health insurance premiums 2027: how much do they rise?
The 5% increase is an average calculated across the whole of Switzerland. It does not mean that everyone will pay exactly 5% more.
The differences between cantons are in fact significant. For 2027 the average cantonal increases range between 3% and 6.6%.
In Ticino, for example, the average increase will be 3.7%. The average cantonal premium will thus rise to about CHF 519.90 per month. Despite the increase being lower than the national average, Ticino continues to have the highest average premium in Switzerland.
This comparison shows why it is not enough to look only at the national percentage increase when trying to understand how much your health insurance will cost in 2027.

Why do premiums rise?
The rise in premiums is mainly linked to the growth in the costs of compulsory healthcare insurance.
In recent years the healthcare services used by the population have increased and, as a result, so have the costs borne by basic insurance. Contributing factors include population ageing, medical progress, new therapeutic options and rising costs per patient.
Premiums are calculated by insurers and then submitted for approval to the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH).
Will the new premium be the same for everyone?
No. The average premium of CHF 412 is a statistical value and does not necessarily correspond to what an individual will pay.
The actual premium depends, among other things, on the place of residence, age group, deductible, insurance model and accident coverage.
Differences are possible even within the same canton. In Ticino there are two premium regions and the municipality of residence helps determine the applicable premium.
For this reason, with the publication of the 2027 premiums, the most useful question is not just how much health insurance will rise in general, but how much your own premium will change.
With CassaOK you can compare the 2027 premiums based on your own situation and check which alternatives are available in your area.
2027 therefore brings a new increase in premiums, but the impact will be different for each insured person. Knowing your new premium and comparing it with the available alternatives gives you a clearer picture of next year’s costs.
